The Life You’re Living Isn’t Yours

At some point, you learned to turn yourself down.

Not all at once. A little here. A little there. Someone said you were too much and you believed them. Or they didn’t say it out loud but you felt it. In the disapproval on their face. In the way the room shifted.

You got the message that the version of you who just showed up wasn’t the version they could handle.

So you adjusted.

You learned which parts of yourself were safe to bring and which ones to leave at the door. You figured out how to be enough without being too much.

And eventually that became just how you showed up.

The life you’re living now was built by that version of you. The edited one. The one who learned to fit for them.

It might even look good from the outside. But there are moments when something goes quiet in you. A low hum of this isn’t quite it. Not something you can always explain. Just the feeling that somewhere underneath there’s a version of you that never felt accepted.

That’s not a flaw in you.

That’s what happens when you spend years wearing a mask.

What Was Underneath It the Whole Time

Here’s what I want you to understand about every person who ever told you that you were too much.

They weren’t seeing you. They were seeing you through themselves.

The family member who told you to calm down. The teacher who said you were too sensitive. The manager who said you were bossy. The friend who said you were too intense. The partner who said you were too much to handle.

They weren’t wrong about what they saw. They were wrong about what it meant.

Because every one of them was looking at you through the lens of how they’re wired. And when you don’t move through the world the way someone else does, the easiest thing for them to do is call you a problem. Say you needed to adjust, turn it down, or be managed.

But it wasn’t you.

How you’re wired was just unfamiliar to them. And unfamiliar felt threatening. So they handed you a verdict that was never theirs to give.

And you carried it.

You built a whole life around making sure you never triggered that reaction again. You edited yourself down to the version that kept the peace while losing yours. That fit inside the box they decided was right for you.

The life you’re living now is the result.

The Recognition

Here’s what was underneath the mask the whole time.

Not a flaw. Not a problem. Not something that needed to be corrected or contained.

The exact way you were created to move through the world.

Most people have never heard this named without an apology attached. So let me introduce you to ING energy.

  • perceive ING sees what other people miss. The detail nobody caught. The tension in the room nobody wanted to name. They’ve been told they were too intense. Too harsh. Too much in their head.
  • serve ING is wired to help. It sees what needs to be done before anyone asks. Holds things together quietly while everyone else takes the credit. They’ve been called too accommodating. Too selfless.
  • teach ING can’t stop until something is fully understood. It asks the questions nobody else thought to ask. Covers every angle. They’ve been told they were too slow. Too complicated. Overthinking it.
  • encourage ING sees your potential so strongly it can feel almost inconvenient. They believed in people before those people believed in themselves. They’ve been called too optimistic. Too naive. Too easily disappointed.
  • give ING finds real joy in generosity. Not to impress anyone. Just because that’s how they’re wired. They’ve been told they were too generous. That people would take advantage.
  • lead ING sees what needs to happen and moves toward it. Already three steps ahead, ready to organize and build. They’ve been called too controlling. Too aggressive. Too demanding.
  • mercy ING feels what you feel before you say a word. Not sympathy. Something deeper. Other people’s pain lands in them like it’s their own. They’ve been called too sensitive. Too emotional. Too attached.

One of those echoed in your spirit differently than the others.

You felt it. That quiet internal shift of that’s exactly what I was told was wrong with me.

That’s not a coincidence. That’s recognition. And recognition is where change begins.

What It Actually Is

That recognition you just felt isn’t a personality trait. It’s not a tendency or a system you got sorted into. It’s the energy that was placed in you before anyone had a chance to tell you it was wrong.

There are seven ING energy types: perceive ING, serve ING, teach ING, encourage ING, give ING, lead ING, and mercy ING. Every person is created with one that drives everything. How you think. How you love. How you work. How you show up in a room before you’ve said a single word.

It was there before the mask. It was there from the beginning.

You just never had a name for it until now.

There’s something else worth naming here. Sometimes your ING type isn’t showing up at its best. Low mastery means you haven’t yet developed the skills to navigate your own wiring. When that happens, your ING energy can come out in ways that are hard to be around.

That’s not evidence that your ING type is wrong. That’s evidence that your ING type needs to be understood and developed. There’s a real difference between those two things.

The people around you couldn’t tell the difference because they didn’t have language for ING energy. They just knew you were different. So they called you the problem.

What Actually Happened

You were born wired a specific way. Before anyone had an opinion about it. Before anyone told you it was too much. It was just yours.

And then life happened. People with different ING types came into your world: family, teachers, friends, coworkers, and strangers. They experienced your wiring through their lens. They held you to their standard. Their version of how a person should show up.

You weren’t that. You couldn’t be that. You were never designed to be that.

But nobody told you that. So you did what most people do. You started trying to become their version of you instead of understanding your own.

The exhaustion you feel isn’t from being too much. It’s from spending years trying to be less.

What makes you too much for some people makes you exactly right for others. But you can’t get to exactly right while you’re still trying to be less.

The things you were told to change? They might be the exact things you were put here to do.

Not because everything about how you’ve shown up has been perfect. But because the core of how you’re wired was never the problem. The missing language was the problem.

That’s what ING energy gives you. Not a new description of yourself. A translation of something you’ve been living your whole life without being able to explain.

And when you finally have that language, something shifts. You stop trying to fix the thing that was never broken. You start understanding the thing that was always yours.

The life you’re living isn’t yours yet.

But it can be.
